We use Sustainable Agriculture practices. We apply a common sense approach including cover crops to prevent soil erosion and run-off of nutrients. We also have a waste management plan that includes soil testing and injection of composted manure directly into the ground. Injecting allows efficient use so less is needed.
While John is making the cheese, Rich is taking care of the 300 cow dairy. It's a family business, so the whole family pitches in, the kids even do farm chores.

| Part of sustainable agriculture practices is using resources efficiently and effectively. Cousins Gerrit and Richard may not see how much their daily chore of changing irrigation pipes by hand is helping (especially at 6:30 am) but it is their future that we are striving to enrich. |

We raise our own grass and corn for silage, which we store in large bunkers to maintain a steady renewable supply of food.
A professional nutritionist tests each new crop for a balance of protein, fiber, carbs and vitamins and recommends amounts of added alfalfa hay and grain.
The silage mixture is fed to the cows daily after the morning and evening milking. The cows then rest and "ruminate" in stalls designed for comfort.
